Basic
Skills Class
Learn
basic skills ...and have more fun !
If our comprehensive, seven-week repair class seems like a little more than
you need, Valley Bicycle now offers a one-night class to help you deal with
those pesky roadside/trailside emergencies that can spoil your ride.
One of our Master Mechanics will take you through the simple art of patching a
flat, to booting the tire to help you get home. He will also demonstrate
chain/link replacement, brake and derailleur adjustment, and emergency wheel
truing. These basic skills will put you back in control of your ride.
The $30 course lasts one hour and requires at least four but no more than eight
participants. If you have a group of between four and eight you can reserve the
night.

Wheel Building
Seminars
Unlock the secrets of
wheel building in our monthly seminars. On one day every month you
can learn how to select the appropriate spoke length, lacing pattern, and number
of spokes for your specific needs. You will then lace, true, and tension your
new wheel to give you miles of smooth, trouble-free riding. Amaze your friends!
Confuse your enemies! Dates and times will be posted soon.
Bring your own parts or get them from us. The only requirement is that you start
with a NEW rim and NEW spokes.

In response to
increasing demand for instruction in the art of bicycle mechanics, we at Valley
Bicycle are offering a new and exciting program for all would-be
do-it-yourselfers. In addition to our seven session repair course, we
also offer:
Hands on with a mechanic
You will work under the guidance of one of our master mechanics. The
work is on a per-job basis and all work is by appointment only. Some typical
charges are (plus parts):
* Bottom bracket overhaul: $50.00
* Headset overhaul: 60.00
* Front hub overhaul: 25.00
* Rear hub overhaul: 30.00
* Brake cable replacement: 25.00
* Derailleur cable replacement: 25.00
* Inner tube replacement: 12.00
Personal
Mechanic
The mechanic is
totally yours for one-on-one work. He/she will instruct you on any and all
aspects of bicycle repair and fit. He/she will do the work with you, or for you.
This service is offered by appointment only and is usually only available after
shop hours but can occasionally be arranged during regular hours. By special
arrangement, and within certain limits, the mechanic can make home or office
visits. This personalized service is only $60 per contact hour plus travel time
if at your home or business.
Your group or organization can contract with Valley Bicycle for any of our
programs. We also provide leaders for day or weekend trips for that special
business or organization outing. Seminar leaders are also available for
discussions on bicycle repair, touring, fit, equipment, history, and many other
topics.
